Refusing to see the barbarians at the gate will not save you, your family, or, for that matter, anyone else. Pretending they are only temporary annoyances, not threats is, in my opinion, an act of cowardice. Acknowledging them as threats requires daring action, doesn’t it? Is this harsh and judgmental? Maybe; maybe not. I don’t think so—personal safety is the main reason people started living in groups in the first place.
Come on: admit it. We all know the human family has evolved multiple variations of traits and tendencies. Variations in “caring” genes predispose some to be very moral and others to be psychopaths. We all know individuals who are brave and others who shrink into the fetal position when faced with difficult decisions or physical danger.
“The perfect book for the person who wishes to understand the science behind evolution and the issues of today, but doesn’t want to have to read with a scientific dictionary by his side.”—Robert Pruett
