Dear God,
If You are here and everywhere at the same time as many people believe, you know my book, Settled Science, is all about explaining to non-scientists how the scientific community thinks our Universe began, how life began, and how all living creatures on Earth got here. Whether or not the 14 billion year process was designed by You is unknowable by us, and when it comes right down to it, it doesn’t really matter.
If You are here, you know that all is not peachy here. I, and many others, can’t help but notice that—contrary to what our spiritual leaders promise—religious individuals suffer as much or more as those who don’t practice religion at all, causing us to increasingly wonder if You exist. You are the only one who can answer this eternal question.
By spontaneously healing just one child’s cleft lip or cleft palate You would erase any doubt of Your existence. As one anguished parent put it: “you don’t know suffering until you have seen my little one struggling to eat.” There has never been a single case where a child’s cleft lip or cleft palate has healed without surgery, and even then lifetime scars remained, so a spontaneous healing leaving no scars, witnessed by knowledgeable objective surgeons, would be undeniable proof of Your existence.
So I, and many sad parents and grandparents, respectfully ask:
“Forget saving the world, how about curing one child’s cleft lip or cleft palate one time, with…one miracle!”
Amen.
