The Bible says that God took a rib from Adam and made Eve. For people who strongly believe everything written in the Bible is literally true, Miss Universe came from a man’s rib, so for them that’s that -end of story. Biologists tell us a different story.
They say that all mammals living today, and we can all see that Miss Universe is quite a mammal, evolved from a small shrew-like animal that survived the devastation that killed the dinosaurs. Until we completely allow the mind police to control all of our thoughts, we are free to choose where we think Miss Universe came from. Since the God explanation does not lend itself to reasoned analysis, most of us either believe it or we don’t. Others skillfully say they don’t know but “anything is possible with God.”
Since we all know that God could have just created Eve by just wishing it, and didn’t need a rib to make her, we science geeks generally lean to the biological explanation. Biologists describe Miss Universe’s ancestor this way:
- It possessed strong jaw muscles
- Had a long snout
- Had a long tail
- Ate insects
- Was 4 to 6 inches long
- Laid eggs like their reptile ancestor
- Had sharp canine teeth
- Had 4 limbs with 5 digits and claws
- Had body covered with fur
- Fed its young with its own milk from mammary glands
- Was warm-blooded
After the extinction of the dinosaurs and other competing species, Miss Universe’s ancestors, over millions of years, evolved to form many mammal species. One of them are the primates, to which humans belong. The 3 main branches of primates that evolved around 20 million years ago were the lemurs, monkeys, and apes. Evolutionary biologists have determined that humans are more like apes in appearance, in the way they function, and in their DNA. Anthropologists continue to unearth fossils of species that preceded us that help them better understand how and when we got here. However, sometimes discoveries are made by scientists who attach more importance to them than they deserve.
Recently it was reported that a fossil skeleton found in Ethiopia in 1994 exhibits surprising human-like features that strongly indicates that Miss Universe’s ancestors began evolving much earlier than previously thought, and not from a chimpanzee-like ape, but from a common ancestor of both humans and chimpanzees around 6 to 7 million years ago. I don’t mean to brag, but anyone who has read my book, Settled Science, knows this already. On page 93, I wrote:
“[H]umans are closest in their DNA with chimpanzees, but almost as close with bonobos. It is important to note that humans did not evolve from chimpanzees or bonobos, all three evolved from a common ancestor. DNA evidence indicates that chimpanzees, bonobos, and humans started to evolve from a common ancestor species around 8 million years ago.
”
Eventually ongoing mutations, natural selection, human migrations and isolated populations in changing environments sculpted such a beautiful creature as Miss Universe.
If you are interested in learning more about how our universe formed, how life began, and how we all got here, looking the way we do, read my book, Settled Science.
